Let's get ready for your session

Carolyn's Simple Styling Tips

First of all, your style is yours. Only you can decide what you like and feel comfortable in. Taking time to plan a look you love will contribute to the aesthetics and feel of your final images. Do you want casual photos or do you want to dress to the nines? Either is fine and I'm all about "you-do-you" but I have found that my families and couples tend to ask for a little direction and advice when it comes to selecting outfits for their session. If that's you, this section is for your you!

• Comfort is key to confidence: Choose something you feel great in!
• Shoot for Jewel Tones and Earthy Neutrals: Greens, burnt orange, burgundy, mustard yellow, and blues are all great starting points to pair with browns, beiges, tans, and blacks.
• Complementary colors are key: DO NOT try to match; instead shoot for a complementary color palate. You'll find a ton of inspiration if you search "color palate for family photos" on Google or Pinterest.
• Incorporate patterns and texture: This adds depth and interest. Don't bring in too many patterns though; It's always a good idea to pair patterns with complementary solids.
• Build around one outfit: Build your family's look around one person's desired outfit (for example, mom).
• Don't be afraid to accessorize: Bringing along a jacket, hat, or other easy-on-and-off accessory is a great way to add variety to your gallery.

During Your Session

We're going to have so much fun! You may feel a little awkward at first, but don't worry - it's totally normal (promise!) and I've got a knack for breaking the ice. I'll ask a few questions to learn more about y'all and we'll transition into grabbing a few regular ole "looking-at-the-camera" photos. Next, I'll prompt y'all to interact with each other and work my magic collecting shots from as many angles as possible. We'll likely move to a few different spots in the area chasing the best possible lighting and environment. It is my goal is to capture your unique bond and personality.

If kids or animals are involved remember that they set the pace and agenda. I am keen on reading their cues, naturally flexible, and 100% kinda love (and prefer) a little chaos! I am not in the game of forcing any pose or interaction so don't stress if you start to feel like they aren't "cooperating." Trust me, I'll be cool as a cucumber and all I need is for you to stay "cool" too. We got this!
